Hi Loves,
One of my favorite things to do in the month of December is to drive around and look at Christmas lights. Something about it just brings me so much joy and fills me with excitement. With many of us being at home and looking for safe activities, I thought this would be the perfect time to compile a list of KC’s best holiday lights.
Let’s get started!
If you are wanting the address to the light display, make sure to click on the name of it in bold. Each hyperlinked word will take you to their website.
I have been going to the Longview Lake Light Display for several years, and it never gets old. The line to get in is typically very long, but it is worth it. The lights are so well done and interactive. One of my favorite displays they have within the park are skiers going over a mountain AKA your car. They have 300,000 lights and 175 animated characters for you to take in!
This year my family and I drove through the Swope Park Winter Magic for the first time ever, and we are obsessed! It is a one mile drive, and you do have to purchase a ticket in advance, but OMG it was beautiful! They have a tunnel of lights to drive through, a KC skyline in lights, and a garden full of ornaments. I would drive through it again this season … I loved it that much.
I have not had the opportunity to visit this display yet, but I plan on going this weekend. This is a walking lights display, so you do have to get out of your car. Powell Gardens has been a very popular attraction this season, so I highly recommend purchasing your tickets online before going. You can grab a drink from their Holly Jolly Rest Stop (some spiked and some not) and create a pine cone ornament before walking around. I am so excited to visit! It was newly added to my list this year!
Bryce surprised me with a Christmas Light date night this year. He took me to a few different light spots, but this was one of my favorites! The entire neighborhood is completely covered in lights. Each house is so unique and gorgeous. No crazy long lines to drive this one either. You just follow a trail of cars.
The Lee’s Summit Magic Tree is exactly what it sounds like … magical! This small tree is wrapped with tons of lights making the whole tree look like it’s glowing! Absolutely stunning and even prettier after a snowfall. You can just park, run out of the car, take a few pictures, and hop back in. No crazy long lines!
The Holiday season is simply not complete without a visit to the Plaza to admire the lights. Every Thanksgiving night my family would drive to the Plaza, park in a random garage, and check out the lights. We would go at weird times (like midnight – 3am) so it was empty. These lights are a tradition in KC and make Christmas shopping there 10 thousand times better. I never get tired of looking at them!
There you have it!! Comment below your favorite holiday light display in Kansas City … I’d love to check it out!
Until next time, Spread Kindness.
