Hi Loves,
Happy Holidays! Living in an apartment building obviously means no wraparound front porch or two welcoming French doors that I can cover with massive live wreaths. However, in this little life of mine, decorating my barren hallway front door brings me joy. Over the years, I’ve learned from my wonderful neighbors that they look forward to my decorations — no matter how extra they are — and I feel the same about theirs. Together, we’ve made our little slice of paradise into Candy Cane Lane.
If you’re like me and my neighbors, here’s a little holiday inspiration for your front door.

Our hallway is bright blue, which presents a challenge when decorating. It limits the colors and shades that you can use. The oval shaped rug ties in that brighter blue color that’s on the wall and the golden yellow ribbon I’ve weaved into the garlands and trees.
Several years ago, I invested in black pots from Amazon. I love how they look with the lighted trees. To fill the space at the bottom, I added sprigs of pine and other wintry types of trees. I also grabbed real magnolia leaves to bring in warmth. If you’re local to Kansas City, you can find these at Price Chopper or at Family Tree Nursery.
The bow trend has taken over every area of my life including the lighted trees in the pots. With velvet ribbon, I made several little bows to stick into the trees. I ended up hot glueing them instead of tying them on the branches.

The garland above the door came as is from Michael’s Craft Store (similar). To keep everything cohesive, I added magnolia leaves to it and a strand of twinkle lights. Normally, to hang stuff over my door I use Command Strips. This time, my mom watched a video about using magnetic cup hooks to hang garlands on door frames. Let’s just say these were a game changer. In total, we used three magnetic hooks and it worked perfect! No holes and renter friendly!
As I was shopping at Target last year, I stumbled upon this massive wreath with a golden yellow ribbon. Compared to most door wreaths, this one is quite large in size. I stuffed eucalyptus stems throughout it and added twinkle lights to give it some more texture. The felt dove in the wreath and the one in the pot were from Anthropologie and originally tree-toppers.

There’s no better feeling than walking through a front door that is all lit up for the holidays. Every year, I have a difficult time taking it down because I truly love it. My apartment building feels less like a desolate hallway and more like a neighborhood.

As always, if decorate your front door or go all out with your decor, I’d love to see! Have a holly jolly Christmas, XOXO.
Until next time, spread kindness.
